JIkke van Loon, artist

This project is by initiative of artist Jikke van Loon, based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
She regularly visited the temple guardians in the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam en decided to help them ‘go back home’.
Both the Niōmon Foundation (Stichting Niōmon) and Ippan Shadan Hōjin NIOMON Yokota were established to help facilitate and organise this project.

 Niōmon Foundation

Stichting Niomon aims to facilitate and organize an art project by the name of ‘Project NIO-MON, A portal, A Home’  initiated by Dutch artist JIkke van Loon.
The aim of this project is to build and / or strengthen the original gate “Niōmon”, home to the returned DelftsBlue Temple guardians.  A Niōmon is both a physical gate that houses temple guardians and a portal to 'wisdom, compassion and knowledge'. This project aims to promote these values by examining and delving deeper into our own and other people's frames and realities in annual AIR, debates, workshops, lectures and exchange projects and everything that can be conductive to them.’

In Japan, residents of Yokota have joint hands and provided an impressive building for AIRs, debates and workshops (the Honmachi Kaikan).  This serves both as a temporary House for the Blue Niozo and is a platform and festival location for the yearly NIO-Festival (2021-2025).
